Valagro and the sustainability of production processes: the finalisation of the company's cogeneration plant is now complete

Valagro, a leading company in the production and marketing of biostimulants and specialty nutrients, has announced that it has completed the development of a company plant to cogenerate electricity and heat on lines for drying chelated micro-elements.
The plant construction project was launched in 2016, with a total investment of €2,200,000.00, and forms an integral part of the interventions required by the ISO 50001 standard, with which Valagro is committed to increasing the efficiency of its energy management systems, and reducing its fuel consumption as well as environmental impact.
From this perspective, the cogeneration plant makes it possible to produce electricity by means of turbogas and, at the same time, thermal energy derived from burning methane, for its production process. By jointly using the electric energy produced and the recovery of the thermal energy from the combustion very high levels of efficiency can be achieved, increasing the overall efficiency of the system, and creating considerable advantages for the company.
Antonio Basilavecchia, Valagro Global Operations Director: "The construction of the cogeneration plant is fully in line with the company's Mission to pursue greater efficiency and sustainability in its products and production processes. In fact, thanks to the cogeneration plant, it is possible to save up to 10% of primary sources (natural gas), in respect to the company's energy needs. This not only translates into an economic advantage for the company, but also lowers the company's environmental impact: polluting emissions decrease, including greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide), when one compares it to the separate production of electricity and heat."
